Advanced Single Sign-on login process for federated accounts

Katy Harrison Updated by Katy Harrison

Federated sign-in is a great way to simplify the sign-in process, this is commonly referred to as SSO. Instead of having to remember another username and password, you can sign-in using your existing credentials from your identity provider, such as Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Google Identity or Okta.

Enabling federated sign-in requires some configuration in Organisation settings by an admin user. Learn more about setting up federations.

Logging in for the first time with Advanced SSO

If you're logging in to an Advanced application for the first time, or if your account has been migrated to use Advanced SSO, you will get these steps on your first login.

Selecting an organisation

  1. When first logging on, you will be asked to enter your email address.
  1. If you have access to more than one organisation, you will see this screen to select an organisation.
If you only have one organisation, you will not see this screen and will be passed straight to the next screen.
  1. On the next screen, you will then see the option for federated identity service, such as Azure AD, at the top if this is set up for your organisation. Click on the top button.

Pairing your account

  1. If your email address matches with an account but isn't fully linked, you may be asked to pair the accounts. If your account is paired correctly, you will be taken to your identity provider login - skip to step 9.
  1. You can then check your details and complete any missing information, such as first or last name.
  1. You will have received an email to confirm that you want to pair the accounts.
  1. Clicking on 'Pair accounts' will take you to this screen.
  1. Once you confirm the pairing, setup is complete.

Logging in with your usual details

  1. You can now login using your usual details that you use for your organisation's software. This screen would typically have your organisation's branding.
It could look similar to this:
After you have entered your login details and multi-factor authentication, you will be logged into your Advanced account.

Subsequent logins

When you login in the future, the steps will depend on how your organisation has set up the identity provider you use. You may be logged in straight away without having to enter any details if a short period of time has passed since you last logged in.

Typically you may have to complete two steps:

  1. Enter your email address.
  1. Enter your usual login details.

That's it! If you're unsure of anything or have any problems logging in, you can check our FAQs or contact your system administrator for help.
